Our Lisa and Dougie complete Scotland’s Mental Health First Aid Trainer's Course

Congratulations to our Lisa and Dougie who recently completed Scotland’s Mental Health First Aid Trainer's Course.

FASS were delighted to receive two places on the recent pilot SMHFA Training for Trainers online course.

Both Lisa, one of our Counsellors and Dougie, a Counsellor and Supervisor with FASS found the training rewarding.

Lisa shared her experience of the course:

Lisa said, "I was honored that I was chosen to go on the course and that it was felt I had the ability to be able to roll out such an important course. The course was interesting, beneficial, enjoyable and I learned how to run a training course, and lots of tip and hints from my peers on the course, this will benefit me immensely moving forward. It has given me a true understanding of mental health and being able to roll out the importance of Mental Health and being a first aider. FASS will benefit with having 2 members of the team who are able to roll out this course with confidence so that all our peers within the organisation have a better understanding and can become mental health first aiders."

Dougie spoke of the importance of mental health:

Dougie said: "We take physical first aid for granted, isn’t it time we were as prepared for mental health first aid? We can deliver the skills and understanding for you to be comfortable, and confident in a mental health crisis first aid situation. You can learn what to do and say in a crisis, your intervention as a first aider could potentially save a life, promote understanding of mental health issues, and allow us all to understand recovery to good mental health is possible. I would highly recommend this course. FASS can deliver this course to you."

Many thanks to all at Public Health Scotland for giving Fife Alcohol Support Service the opportunity to have another two trainers in the organisation who can’t wait to get out there and deliver.
